Hong Ji-sun, second vice minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, visited Hanoi, Vietnam, from June 10 to 12, pledging to build a sustainable railway cooperation partnership with Vietnam on the strength of South Korea's accumulated high-speed rail operating experience and proven technology.

During the visit, Hong met with Truong Viet Trung, vice chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, as well as Nguyen Minh Son, vice chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Economics and Finance, and Assembly members Pham Thi Hong Yen and Nguyen Manh Hung. The meetings focused on ways to expand bilateral railway cooperation, including the Hanoi Metro project and the North-South High-Speed Railway project.

Hong said South Korea is reviewing a plan for the Korea Rail Network Authority, Korail and South Korean private companies to join a feasibility study as a "global one team" alongside overseas design firms and local Vietnamese companies. He also proposed that, should South Korean firms win the feasibility study contract, they actively support Vietnam's railway self-reliance through technology transfers for high-speed rail vehicle maintenance and the training of railway professionals.
