People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok said Tuesday that someone is destroying evidence of fraudulent voting and called on the joint investigation unit to secure that evidence immediately.

Writing on his Facebook account, Jang said a box containing ballot papers from a polling station in Jamsil had gone missing. "The National Election Commission doesn't even know where it went," he said.

He said the missing box was labeled as containing 1,900 ballot papers, and argued that this was clear proof of irregularities. The Jamsil 7-dong No. 2 polling station had 3,856 registered voters, he said, meaning fewer than 50 percent of the required ballots had been printed.

Jang said 91 polling stations nationwide had faced ballot shortages, and that all of them were sites where evidence of illegal activity must be preserved.

"The joint investigation unit must secure the evidence right now, and the special prosecutor must be launched as soon as possible," he said. He warned that if anyone tried to suppress the truth, "the public's anger will only grow, and the flames of that anger will consume this administration."
