Elon Musk's space company SpaceX has set the share count for what could be the largest initial public offering in history at 555,555,555 — a figure that has caught investors' attention.

SpaceX filed for an IPO with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission listing 555,555,555 shares, according to Reuters and other outlets on Tuesday. At $135 per share, the total comes to roughly $74.99 billion — nearly matching the company's $75 billion fundraising target (about 103 trillion won).

The overallotment option, known as a greenshoe, was set at 83,333,333 shares — a figure built around repeating threes.

This is not the first time Musk has played with numbers. In 2018, he posted on Twitter that he was considering taking Tesla private at $420 per share.

In a subsequent SEC probe, Musk explained why he rounded up from a calculated figure of $419 to $420, saying he had learned the number's significance in cannabis culture and thought his girlfriend would find it funny.

The tweet cost Musk and Tesla a combined $40 million in SEC settlements — $20 million each. Musk was also required to step down as Tesla's board chairman for three years.

In 2020, Tesla priced the Model S at $69,420 — fitting both 69 and 420 into a single figure. When Musk acquired Twitter in 2022, the price was $54.20 per share.

SpaceX's IPO has also drawn scrutiny over its valuation, with critics arguing the company's low public float leaves it overpriced.
