BMW Financial Services Korea said Wednesday that Korea Ratings has upgraded its corporate credit rating one notch to AA- from A+, with a stable outlook. The upgrade reflects the company's standing as the BMW Group's exclusive domestic financing arm, with a stable business base and solid profitability.

An AA- rating indicates a very strong capacity to meet principal and interest obligations and a relatively stable ability to weather changes in the external environment. It is considered a high-grade rating within the investment-grade category.

Korea Ratings said BMW Financial Services Korea maintains a solid market position as the BMW Group's exclusive financing arm in South Korea. The agency noted that the company has expanded its automotive finance volume on the back of sales of key brands including BMW and MINI, securing a stable profit-generating structure in the process.

Support from the BMW Group was also cited as a factor in the upgrade. Korea Ratings said BMW Financial Services Korea has stable funding capacity backed by group-level financial support, and assessed its liquidity management capabilities as strong.

BMW Financial Services Korea offers automotive finance products — including installment financing, operating leases and financial leases — to customers of BMW, MINI, BMW Motorrad and Rolls-Royce. The company has expanded its presence in the imported vehicle finance market by tailoring products to individual vehicle characteristics, customer purchasing patterns and lifestyles.

This year marks the company's 25th anniversary. BMW Financial Services Korea launched in 2001 as the country's first financing company dedicated to imported vehicles and has since introduced a range of lease products and automotive finance services. More recently, it has enhanced contract inquiry and service convenience through its digital finance platform My FINCar.

In the imported vehicle market, financing terms, residual values, and the competitiveness of lease and installment products are playing an increasingly significant role in purchase decisions alongside vehicle price. As a result, the role of captive finance companies for automakers is expanding beyond simple purchase support toward customer retention and brand loyalty.

"This is a recognition of our stable growth and financial competitiveness as we mark our 25th anniversary," a company official said.
