The Yuwon Golf Foundation has awarded 50 million won ($32,900) in "Golf Dream Tree" scholarships to 26 young golf prospects from North Jeolla Province, the foundation said Wednesday.
The North Jeolla scholarship recipients were selected based on combined results from two competitions: the 40th North Jeolla Special Self-Governing Province Golf Association President's Cup Amateur Golf Championship, held May 18-19, and the 21st North Jeolla Special Self-Governing Province Superintendent of Education Cup Student Golf Championship, held June 8-9. As a result, 26 students were chosen — six from elementary school, 10 from middle school and 10 from high school.
The foundation had previously selected 26 young golf scholarship recipients from Jeju in April, providing 45 million won in support. Combined with the latest North Jeolla recipients, the foundation has now awarded Golf Dream Tree scholarships totaling approximately 95 million won to 52 students.
"We hope these scholarships will serve as a foundation for growth for young golfers striving toward their dreams," foundation chairman Kim Young-chan said. "The Yuwon Golf Foundation will be a steadfast pillar of support as these promising players grow into the leaders of the future."
The Yuwon Golf Foundation was established in 2015 by Kim Young-chan, chairman of the Golfzon Group, who contributed personal funds to nurture golf talent and strengthen the competitiveness of Korean golf.
