Wonju is taking its advanced industries to Seoul, putting its robotics, drone and healthcare capabilities on display at a major national technology fair.
The city joined the 2026 Smart Tech Korea exhibition, which opened Wednesday at COEX in Seoul, to court promising companies in high-tech sectors and attract new investment.
Now in its 15th edition, Smart Tech Korea is one of South Korea's flagship technology exhibitions, drawing domestic and international companies in AI, robotics, smart manufacturing and digital innovation. This year, more than 500 companies participated, presenting the latest in global advanced technology.
At the fair, Wonju is promoting what it calls a differentiated investment environment to technology companies from across the country, highlighting three advantages: its well-connected transportation network offering easy access to Greater Seoul, its advanced industry infrastructure spanning semiconductors, biotech, healthcare and digital healthcare, and its tailored corporate support programs and investment incentives.
The city also drew interest from companies by conducting outreach visits directly to firms with strong potential ties to Wonju's strategic industries.
Wonju plans to follow up with promising companies identified at the exhibition through continued consultations and on-site visits, with the aim of converting that interest into concrete investment outcomes, including memoranda of understanding.
The city is also operating investment promotion booths at major domestic industrial fairs, actively spreading the message of Wonju as a business-friendly city to its target companies.
In March, Wonju participated in an advanced industry exhibition in Tokyo, extending its investment attraction efforts to overseas markets as part of a broader push to draw both domestic and foreign companies.
Through these efforts, the city aims to build lasting networks with businesses and expand its track record of securing tangible investment results.
"This exhibition is a great opportunity to meet leading companies at the forefront of future industries in one place," a city official said. "We will do our best to promote Wonju's strong industrial base and investment environment, and to attract investment from companies with high growth potential."
