Gyeongil University's AI Convergence Workforce Development Project launched its "Pohang Senior AI Fairy Tale Creation" program Sunday, holding its first class and orientation at the Baetmeori Education Center of the Pohang Lifelong Learning Institute.

The program extends to Pohang a generative AI education initiative for seniors that the university has already run in Gyeongsan and Gumi, aimed at improving digital literacy among older residents and supporting AI-based creative activities.

The course is open to Pohang residents born before 1961 and centers on creating images, videos and music using generative AI, as well as producing original fairy tale content.

The program runs for 10 sessions through July 9. Sunday's orientation covered an introduction to the project, the course schedule and examples of generative AI applications. The first class that followed introduced the concept of generative AI and walked participants through hands-on practice writing fairy tale storylines using ChatGPT.

"Following Gyeongsan and Gumi, we will actively support seniors in the Pohang area as well, giving them new opportunities to learn and create through AI," said Kim Hyeon-u, vice president of industry-academic cooperation.

Woo Dong-gyeong, director of the AI Convergence Workforce Development Project, said the university would continue expanding region-specific AI education programs to raise digital literacy and help spread AI culture among local communities.
