A 15-member transition committee drawn from various fields launches to guide the incoming administration of Suncheon Mayor-elect Son Hun-mo.
Suncheon Mayor-elect Son Hun-mo has formed the "9th Directly Elected Suncheon Mayor Transition Committee" to oversee the handover of city administration, appointing Park Ki-young, an honorary professor at Suncheon National University, as its chair.
The transition committee comprises 15 experts from various fields, including the chair and vice chair. It is notable for bringing together hands-on specialists in areas such as aerospace, the environment, social welfare and ESG management — sectors central to the city's future growth and residents' livelihoods.
Park, who also serves as head of the science, technology and future strategy subcommittee of the Democratic Party of Korea, was named to lead the committee.
She is expected to play a key role in translating Son's vision of developing Suncheon into a hub for advanced industries and science and technology.
Kim Dong-hyun, a former career official who previously served as president of the Korea Local Finance Association, was named vice chair. He is regarded as well suited to guide a stable administrative transition and efficient organizational restructuring, drawing on his extensive public-sector experience.
"This transition committee was put together entirely on the basis of expertise and practical ability — with no room for rewarding campaign supporters or making political concessions," Son said.
