The Seoul Metropolitan Sports Council announced Tuesday it will provide monthly scholarships to student athletes from elementary, middle and high schools in Seoul facing financial hardship, under its "2026 Future Hope Sports Prodigy Development Scholarship" program.
A total of 137 student athletes were selected as scholarship recipients this year — 16 from elementary school, 42 from middle school and 79 from high school. They will receive monthly payments of 200,000 won (about $129) for elementary students, 300,000 won for middle schoolers and 400,000 won for high schoolers, from April through December, covering nine months.
The council held a scholarship certificate ceremony Monday at its conference room in Seoul, presenting certificates to six student representatives — two each from the elementary, middle and high school divisions.
Seoul Metropolitan Sports Council Chairman Kang Tae-sun said he hoped the selected student athletes would "challenge themselves boldly toward their dreams with pride and a sense of responsibility." He added that the council would continue to support student athletes so they can "grow into outstanding sports talent by balancing athletics and academics."
