The 12th Suncheon Naganeupseong National Gugak Competition will be held at Naganeupseong Folk Village in Suncheon, South Jeolla Province, a living showcase of traditional Korean culture.
The competition, set for June 13 and 14, will bring together gugak talents from across the country to compete in pansori and folk song categories.
This year's event introduces a new senior division, designed to honor elders who have dedicated themselves to preserving traditional culture and to strengthen the intergenerational transmission of gugak.
Organizers also created a new "student division grand prize" to raise the morale of the next generation of gugak performers, adding to the competition's prestige and depth.
Top honors will be awarded under the names of the National Assembly Speaker, the Minister of Education, the South Jeolla Province governor, the South Jeolla Province superintendent of education and the Suncheon mayor, with additional prizes for division grand winners, excellence award recipients and merit award recipients.
The competition is hosted by the city of Suncheon and organized by the Naganeupseong Pansori Preservation Society.
