Seo Jun-o, the incoming Nowon-gu district chief, received his certificate of election Monday afternoon from Jung Yong-seok, chairman of the Nowon-gu Election Commission, at a ceremony held at 3 p.m. in the district office's main auditorium.
Organized by the Nowon-gu Election Commission, the ceremony saw certificates presented to a total of 28 winners — Seo, six newly elected Seoul city assembly members (excluding proportional representatives) and 21 district council members (including proportional representatives). The event proceeded with introductions of attendees, the certificate presentation, congratulatory remarks from the commission chairman and a commemorative photo session.
Seo plans to spend the coming weeks preparing a transition committee before formally taking office July 1 to begin running the district in earnest.
At the ceremony, Seo said he views his election as a mandate from residents to transform Nowon-gu from an aging bedroom community into a future economic hub teeming with businesses and jobs. "I will approach this work with an even more humble attitude and repay that trust through results," he said.
