South Jeolla Province Development Corp. announced Monday that its implementation plan for the Damyang Bochon district urban development project received approval from South Jeolla Province on June 5, clearing the way for full-scale work to begin.
The project will build an eco-friendly, low-density residential complex of 2,689 units on a 724,223-square-meter site in Goseo-myeon, Damyang-gun.
The development corporation began reviewing the project in earnest after signing an investment memorandum of understanding with Damyang-gun in December 2017.
Since joining as the project operator, it has worked with South Jeolla Province and Damyang-gun to lift development-restriction-zone designations and complete various permit and authorization procedures.
Negotiated compensation procedures have been finalized, and expropriation adjudication proceedings are now under way for the remaining parcels of land.
Construction is set to break ground this month, with completion targeted for 2030.
The corporation plans to dedicate 35.2 percent of the site to parks and green space, pursuing eco-friendly, low-density development to create a comfortable living environment.
"This is a key project that will lead the formation of a broader metropolitan lifestyle zone in the era of South Jeolla-Gwangju administrative integration, drawing on the locational advantage of being adjacent to Gwangju," said Jang Chung-mo, president of South Jeolla Province Development Corp. "We will establish it as a model of mutual growth for the South Jeolla-Gwangju border region and set a new standard for residential cities on the outskirts of a major metropolitan area."
