James Handy, 81, a Hollywood actor known for his roles in "Jumanji" and "Top Gun: Maverick," was fatally stabbed at his home, Variety and the Associated Press reported June 4.

Handy was found unconscious in the front yard of his Los Angeles residence on June 3 with a stab wound to the chest. Fire department personnel rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Los Angeles Police Department arrested Michael Gledhill, 44, the son of Handy's girlfriend, at the scene on murder charges. Gledhill had been living at the home with his mother.

Born in New York, Handy was a seasoned actor who appeared in dozens of films and drama series, including "Jumanji," "The X-Files," "NCIS: Los Angeles" and "The Closer." Most recently, he played a bartender in the blockbuster "Top Gun: Maverick" (2022).
