About 50 children from an on-site daycare center take part, building boats from recycled materials to learn the value of resource circulation

Korea Rural Community Corp. (KRCC), led by President Kim In-jung, announced Monday that it recently held a "traveling environmental education program on fishing villages, fisheries and the ocean" for about 50 children enrolled at the Haeparan daycare center in Naju, South Jeolla Province, marking Ocean Day on May 31.

KRCC's Fisheries and Coastal Affairs Division and the Nonghyup Central Federation's KRCC branch jointly developed the program as an ESG environmental education initiative. It was designed to help children understand the importance of marine conservation and resource circulation in an accessible and engaging way.

Participating children learned practical ways to protect the marine environment and took part in a "stream boat race," floating vessels they had built from recycled materials on water. Through the activity, they gained a hands-on appreciation for resource circulation and the importance of preserving the ocean.

Ha Tae-seon, KRCC's director of rural planning, said it is important for future generations to develop a proper understanding of environmental values alongside the efforts of older generations. "We will continue to fulfill our social responsibilities as a public institution through environmental education programs linked to local communities," he added.

Hwang Chang-ju, head of Nonghyup's KRCC branch, said Nonghyup would also continue to play a responsible role in ensuring that future generations grow up in a clean and healthy environment.
