Near Farmix Garden entrance, the new space offers residents a scenic rest area themed around medicinal plants such as bellflower and peony

Gangdong-gu in Seoul announced Monday it has created "Baramgyeol Herb Garden," a medicinal plant-themed garden inside Myeongil Neighborhood Park, as part of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Charm Garden project.

The new garden sits near the entrance to Farmix Garden and gives residents a scenic attraction and a place to rest. Farmix Garden is an urban agriculture complex spanning roughly 2,500 pyeong (8,264 square meters) that combines cultivation, education and community functions — 1 pyeong equals 3.3 square meters. Originally a weekend allotment farm, it reopened in 2020 as an experiential garden after the Daegumyo apartment complex was built nearby.

The district planted the garden primarily with familiar medicinal flowering plants, including bellflower, peony, chrysanthemum and Korean mint, so residents can stroll through, take in the scent of the herbs and observe the plants up close. Ornamental grasses such as Chinese pennisetum and feather reed grass were also added.

"It will become a retreat where residents can relax surrounded by flowers and greenery in their everyday lives," Gangdong-gu District Chief Lee Su-hee said. "I hope you will visit comfortably with family and friends and enjoy a moment of calm in the heart of the city."
