Papa John's hikes Coke, Sprite prices by 100-200 won; Domino's, Paik Boy Pizza follow suit

Pizza franchise Papa John's is raising prices on eight beverages starting Monday, as soaring ingredient costs and a weak won push dining-out inflation higher.

Papa John's Korea will increase prices on eight beverages Monday. The 500-milliliter size rises 100 won (5.9%), from 1,700 won to 1,800 won, and the 1.25-liter product goes up 200 won (8.7%), from 2,300 won to 2,500 won. The increases cover Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Zero, Sprite and Sprite Zero, among others. Pizza — the chain's core menu item — is not affected. The company said it had "no choice but to adjust the selling prices of some beverages due to price increases from suppliers."

Papa John's is not the first pizza chain to raise beverage prices. Domino's Pizza raised prices on Coca-Cola, Sprite and other drinks by 100 to 200 won per size starting May 4. Paik Boy Pizza, operated by Theborn Korea, plans to raise beverage prices by 12.0 percent starting Tuesday. The chain will also increase prices on 12 pizza items by 20.2 percent and seven pasta and side dishes by 15.3 percent.
