Western painter Huso Lee Sang-tae, who has devoted his life to painting, will hold his first solo exhibition in 19 years. Sponsored by the city of Tongyeong, the show runs June 8–14 at Haemidang Gallery inside Tongyeong City Hall's second building.

The exhibition — his fourth solo show — is titled "Soyul (Entanglement)." Through mixed media, Lee captures on canvas the interplay between chance and inevitability.

In his artist's notes, Lee said his work reflects a belief that "truth in expressing form exists only in the moment, and the interpretation and acceptance of all situations is merely a process." He described his practice as "an act of breaking the constraints of confinement to reveal circumstance, and an intense affection for humanity."

Born in Masan, Lee studied at Keimyung University's College of Fine Arts and completed his graduate studies there before settling in Tongyeong as the base for his artistic career. He held his first solo exhibition in 2004, followed by a second in 2005 and a third in 2007. The current show is his fourth, arriving 19 years after the last.

Lee has also distinguished himself in stage design. He created sets for theatrical productions including "The Serpent Bridegroom and His Brides" and "Father," and contributed to broadcast set design for MBC's Sageuk drama "Mimang," KBS's "Taejo Wang Geon" and an EBS special lecture series — earning recognition as a spatial artist.

Supported through a national artist welfare program that provides venue space, the exhibition is free and open to the public.
