"Colony" surpassed 4 million cumulative admissions Tuesday afternoon, its distributor said.

Distributor Showbox said the film — which opened May 21 — crossed the 4 million mark on its 14th day in theaters, one day faster than "The King's Warden," which reached the same milestone on its 15th day.

"Colony" has been the fastest film of the year to reach every admissions milestone. It was also the first release this year to hit 1 million admissions (day four), 2 million (day five) and 3 million (day 10).

The film centers on a mysterious mass-infection outbreak that erupts inside a large urban shopping mall.

It is the latest work from director Yeon Sang-ho, who set a box-office record for Korean zombie films with "Train to Busan." A standout element is its premise: a single human orchestrates and commands an entire zombie horde.

Jun Ji-hyun plays Kwon Se-jeong, a biotechnologist who leads a group of survivors, while Gu Gyo-hwan portrays Seo Yeong-cheol, the mastermind behind the zombie outbreak and the commander of the horde.
