Voter turnout in the 9th nationwide simultaneous local elections stood at 2.0 percent as of 7 a.m. Wednesday, the National Election Commission said. Polling opened simultaneously at stations across the country at 6 a.m., with 881,375 of the 44,649,908 eligible voters having cast ballots by that hour.

The figure is 0.3 percentage points higher than the 1.7 percent recorded at the same time during the 8th local elections in 2022.

The early voting turnout of 23.51 percent, from May 29 to May 30, will be factored into the running total from 1 p.m.

North Gyeongsang Province led all regions with a turnout of 2.6 percent, followed by Daegu, Gangwon Province and South Gyeongsang Province at 2.5 percent, Daejeon at 2.4 percent, and South Chungcheong Province and Ulsan at 2.2 percent.

Gwangju recorded the lowest turnout at 1.3 percent, followed by Sejong at 1.4 percent, North Jeolla Province at 1.6 percent, and Seoul and South Jeolla Province at 1.7 percent.

In the greater Seoul metropolitan area, Gyeonggi Province and Incheon each recorded a turnout of 1.9 percent.

Polling continues until 6 p.m. Voters must bring a valid ID and cast their ballots at the polling station designated for their registered address.
