Selected for Seoul Metropolitan Government's vulnerable-resident support program for second consecutive year, the initiative helps 'resting youth' rebuild social ties; applications for the 'My Own Styling' program open May 29 for residents aged 19 to 39; community-based activities include blog education, plogging and cultural outings
Yeongdeungpo-gu has been selected for the second consecutive year for the Seoul Metropolitan Government's "Vulnerable Resident Support Project" and will move forward with the "Yeongdeungpo Youth Fresh Start Project," a program designed to help young people at risk of isolation and withdrawal rebuild their self-esteem and social connections.
The project is part of a Seoul city-district collaboration aimed at identifying and supporting vulnerable residents at the local level. Yeongdeungpo-gu's selection marks two consecutive years in the program.
The district plans to proactively identify so-called "resting youth" — young people who have stepped back from job-seeking — as well as those struggling with social disconnection, with the goal of preventing further isolation and supporting their return to society.
The project comprises four programs, which will roll out sequentially through November. The first, "My Own Styling," is a self-management program designed to help young people express themselves positively and rebuild confidence. It covers daily styling, situation-appropriate outfit coordination (TPO), posture correction and speech training, and before-and-after profile photography — all practical skills for everyday life.
The remaining three programs will follow in sequence: "Blog A to Z," which builds blog management and content planning skills; "Firefly Patrol," a peer-based neighborhood cleanup activity; and "Daily Care Challenge," an offline cultural experience program.
"My Own Styling" will run in both weekday and weekend sessions to maximize participation. The weekday session runs every Tuesday from June 16 to July 7, and the weekend session runs every Saturday from June 20 to July 11.
Applications open May 29 and close June 12. The program is open to 40 participants aged 19 to 39 who live or spend time in Yeongdeungpo-gu. Applicants can register online via the QR code on the promotional poster; those selected will be notified by text message. Further details are available on the district office website's "Our District News" board or through the Yeongdeungpo Youth Naver café.
Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said the district would continue providing practical support so young people can reconnect with society and take charge of their own lives. "We will expand diverse programs that reflect the voices of youth and build a Yeongdeungpo that is a great place to live," he said.
