Gwangjin-gu held the "Gwangjin-gu Community Children's Center Han-maeum Sports Festival" on May 16 at the soccer field inside Children's Grand Park, organized by the Gwangjin-gu Community Children's Center Council, chaired by Kim Bo-ram, director of Gyeonghui Community Children's Center.

The event was designed to give children who rarely have opportunities for outdoor activities a chance to run and play freely, while fostering bonds between children and staff across the district's community children's centers.

More than 400 people attended, including children and youth from 13 community children's centers across the district, along with center staff, parents and volunteers. The crowd cheered each other on in a warm and energetic atmosphere.

The festival opened with a ceremony before moving into a range of programs tailored to participants' ages and physical development levels. Children took part in a balloon race, a ball-toss game and a relay race, building teamwork and a sense of community along the way.

Particularly well received was the event's emphasis on participation and camaraderie over competition — every child was encouraged to join in and cheer for one another, creating a spirit of togetherness. Children naturally learned the value of cooperation as they supported and looked out for each other throughout the day.

A district official said the playground was filled with the bright, healthy laughter of children, calling it a meaningful occasion. "We will continue to support children at community children's centers so they can grow up healthy through a variety of experiences and activities," the official said.

Community children's centers provide comprehensive child welfare services to children in the community who need after-school care, including protection and education, play and cultural activities, and connections to guardians and local resources, fulfilling a vital child-care role in the community.
